Karen Sehgal

Karen has dedicated her life to studying the mind, body and spirit. A graduate of California State University, Long Beach, receiving a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Kinesiology / Science Exercise. She has been an accredited part of the wellness industry for over 30 years, continuing to learn and grow forever. Karen is a holistic, ecological, patient, compassionate, FUN-LOVING, gifted teacher who loves to teach, share, and empower others!

Karen currently owns and teaches Pilates & yoga at her studio – J.O.Y – located in Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca. A daily yoga and meditation practice keeps her grounded and connected to her true purpose and calling: service to others. Her detailed teaching style will attune your focus, heal joint pain and discomfort, leading to a path to a more JOYful you. With an extensive knowledge and experience with nutrition, her creativity shines through wise diet choices and whole foods to promote health and vitality. Karen is on the advisory board at Sun Chlorella.

As part of one of her many Yoga certification programs, Karen conducted a volunteer research study (Seva project) teaching corporate yoga to the employees at Sun Chlorella. Which resulted in a significant decrease in participants’ stress levels, physical pain levels and number of sick days. Believing balance is the key to all health and wellness, her teachings balance effort with ease leaving you feeling strong, confident, open, grounded, calm and JOYful!

Healing the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) has led her to continue her education on the human mind and how it works. Receiving certifications in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Life Coaching and Hypnosis. In addition, she is currently with Agape International Spiritual Center studying under Micheal Beckwith to earn her Spiritual Practitioner License.

Discovering a passion for martial arts has led her to believe it is never too late to go for your dreams. Before focusing on Pilates & yoga, Karen taught kickboxing for 10 years when she discovered Brazilian Jujitsu. Beginning training and competing in her 40s, she went on to win a gold medal in the SJJIF world championships. Currently a teacher and trainee at ESJJ working towards her goal of earning a black belt.

Viewing challenges as an opportunity to evolve and grow has allowed her to overcome many personal trials, strengthening her compassion and empowering her to inspire and motivate others.

Mother

Karen is a very involved single mother of two beautiful girls (21 and 10). She has extensive experience teaching children and believes in nurturing each child’s uniqueness. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for 12 years, bringing hope and inspiration to today’s youth.
She taught Pre-school for years and was an active volunteer in the PVUSD teaching K-5th grade Physical education.
